RACE CAREER INFORMATION

DONNIE ALLISON began racing in Hialeah, Florida, driving with his brother Bobby. It didn't take long for him to get a car and begin racing on his own, frequently competing against Bobby. Together they became known as "The Alabama Gang", and are recognized as the original senior members. Donnie's racing career took off, and he has now raced in every type of car imaginable, many prepared by legends Hoss Ellington, Banjo Mathews, Herb Nab, and the Wood Brothers. He has gone over the million dollar mark, winning ten Winston Cup races, five of twelve Grand American races, the World 600, the Daytona Firecracker 400, the Atlanta Journal 500, and many others.

In 1970 Donnie entered racing history books by finishing fourth in the Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and then won the World 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, remarkably in the same weekend. He is noted as the most successful cross-over driver from stock cars to Indy cars in history.

Donnie was also awarded the 1967  Rookie of the Year, the 1970 Indianapolis Rookie of the Year, and the 1970 Sportsman Most Popular Driver honors. To his credit, he has 10 Winston Cup wins in 239 starts, 78 top five finishes, and 115 top ten finishes. Donnie has been crew chief for his son-in-law, Hut Stricklin, and also Joe Nemechek, Rookie of the Year in NASCAR's Grand National Division. He has also been co-announcer for ABC, CBS, and various radio broadcasts over the course of his career.

Donnie involves himself with his sons' race car building business, promoting the Allison Legacy Race Car and Series. He also keeps busy making personal appearances.  Donnie Allison has spent the better part of his life in the racing arena, both behind the wheel and behind the scenes.
